Tjanara Goreng Goreng is a Wakka Wakka Wulli Wulli woman from western Queensland, Australia with cultural associations to the Yankunytjatjara peoples of Uluru Kata Juta in the central desert Northern Territory. Tjanara is a 'ngungkari' (traditional medicine healer) and Assistant Professor Indigenous Studies at the University of Canberra, Australia. Tjanara is a 'songwoman' singing ancient traditional songs given to her by her Elders and teachers. She is an advocate for social, cultural and political change in Australia for Indigenous people to be recognised as sovereign to their country. In 2000 Tjanara with two Aboriginal women and their Elders established the Foundation for Indigenous Recovery & Development, Australia to undertake social justice and social chnage work with local Aboriginal communities providing therapeutic, healing and wellbeing services for free to their brothers and sisters who still suffer from emotional, mental, cultural, and spiritual grief and loss. Tjanara is a mother, daughter of a strong Aboriginal woman, and sister/mother/Aunty to many extended clan members.
